3-Minute AA Talks: #6 – Staying Sober Through Pain

Hi, I’m Tanya, and I’m an alcoholic.

I used to drink to numb everything—pain, fear, even joy. When I got sober, I was afraid of feeling anything. And then one day, I lost someone I loved.

That’s when the program became real for me. I used every tool I had—meetings, phone calls, prayer, writing, walking, crying. And you know what? I stayed sober.

The Steps didn’t take away the pain—but they gave me the strength to walk through it. I didn’t have to drink over it. I didn’t have to hide from life anymore.

AA doesn’t promise easy days. But it gives us what we need to face life on life’s terms—with grace, support, and faith.

To anyone hurting right now: you can get through it sober. You don’t have to do it alone.

Thanks for letting me share.
