3-Minute AA Talks: #8 – A Spiritual Awakening: Slowly, Then Suddenly

Hi, I’m Greg, and I’m an alcoholic.

When I first heard the phrase “spiritual awakening,” I imagined something dramatic—visions, lightning bolts, deep revelations. What I got instead was something quieter—but much more powerful.

I stopped lying. I started listening. I looked people in the eye. I called my mom. I cried without being drunk. I sat still. I started praying—not perfectly, just honestly.

And one day, I realized: this is the spiritual awakening. It wasn’t one big moment—it was a series of small ones. AA didn’t give me religion; it gave me connection—to people, to purpose, and to a Higher Power of my own understanding.

If you’re waiting for your burning bush, don’t worry. Just keep doing the work. One day, you’ll look around and realize you’ve changed in ways you never thought possible.

That’s the miracle.

Thanks for letting me share.
