Hi, I’m Mark, and I’m an alcoholic.
I didn’t want a sponsor. I didn’t want anyone telling me what to do. But I wanted to stay sober more than I wanted to stay stubborn, so I asked someone.
My sponsor didn’t fix me. He didn’t give me magic answers. But he listened. He shared. He held up a mirror when I needed it. He walked me through the Steps and showed me how to live a sober life, one day at a time.
When I wanted to drink, he picked up the phone. When I was hurting, he reminded me that pain isn’t permanent. When I didn’t believe in myself, he believed enough for both of us.
If you’re new or struggling, get a sponsor. Ask for help. That one act of courage might just save your life too.
