3-Minute AA Talks: #14: “When I Wanted to Drink—and Didn’t”

Hi, I’m Kevin, and I’m an alcoholic.

I’ve been sober a while, but the desire to drink can still sneak up on me—usually when I’m hungry, angry, lonely, or tired.

One night, I was overwhelmed. Work stress, family drama, fear—I found myself standing in front of the fridge thinking, What’s the point?

But something told me: Make the call. So I picked up the phone and called another alcoholic. I got honest. We talked for ten minutes. And the urge passed.

That’s how AA works. Not by removing temptation, but by giving us tools: the phone, the fellowship, the Steps, and a Higher Power.

I didn’t drink that night. I stayed sober. And in the morning, I woke up with no shame, no regret—just gratitude.

If you’re feeling shaky—reach out. You’re not alone. You don’t have to drink today.

Thanks for letting me share.
